Wordpress or Blogger Which One Do You Use

I get many questions about which blog platform to use. What i do is wait until I see trends in the questions submitted then I pick the one asked the most and answer it… This is one of those questions.

So, Blogger or Wordpress?

Let’s clarify something first: We are talking about two free blogging platforms that do not require you having your own hosting account.

Why use a free blogging service?

Before spending money on hosting and leaning all about hosting your own blog you may want to test out your blog on one of the above free blogging platforms.  It’s also a fast way to test out a topic and see if it hits a market nerve.

So which one should I use?

I’d go with http://www.blogger.com because the platform is more intuitive than wordpress.com and here is the big reason, you can add affiliate links to your posts.  Can’t do this with a free blog from wordpress.com.

Moving your blog

Say you started out on one of  free platforms and want to move your blog to your own hosting account with your very own domain name, all you have to do is install Wordpress on your hosting account and the software has an import function that will suck in all your content from blogger or http://www.wordpress.com.

To host your own Wordpress Blog, use my how to start a blog guide with is free 59 page report showing you what to do every step of the way.

Here is another option

Test them both out. You can do this in under 30 minutes. This way, you’ll know what’s best for you.

Are ‘affiliate links’ on your posts in Blogger limited to Google ads? Can you place your own ads and links in your Blogger Blog promoting your own specific products, rather than being forced to promote Google Ads.

Hey Andrew, how are you?

Sure, you can post ads from anywhere in blogger. Go for it :-)

Very sound advice. Fortunately I jumped right into self-hosting and of course used WordPress. I already had hosting so that wasn’t a problem.

In reference to the question from Andrew, I have decided that I like listing my own products or ones that I will be getting a commission from on my blog. I have total control for them to be related but not competing.

Question: Is it ever advisable or desirable to list your URL at the end of your post? I see it done both ways.

Question 2: In your Blogging Tags widget in the sidebar, why are some words larger and can you control that — make all of them stay the same?

#1065. Craig Says:

Wow Carol, you fibbed! In your last comment you said “Just One Question” Now I see a total of three :P It’s ok, bring it on.

OK, first Q, does not make a difference. Up to you.

Next, it’s because more tags are assigned to that word. The bigger the tag, the more tags were added. So in posts if I add the tag “Wordpress” and do it often when posting, in the sidebar you’ll see an over sized tag “Wordpress”. The smaller ones have less tags assigned to them.

For my mini money factory I’m using my own hostng wordpress blog and also blogger and wordpress.com blogs to create links from.
It’s a bit more woprk but hoepfully will be worth it.

Hi

I made a blogger blog around xmas time & was sending traffic via links back to my xmas gifts website – only maybe 5 or 6 links.

Google shut it down as a spam blog due to the links back to my site. I went through the “this is not a spam blog” process with google many times but to no avail – to this day it’s still locked up.

Any ideas on that?

Thanks

Linden

I’d move on Linden.

This is the big reason why hosting your own blog on your own server is something to consider.
