Your Questions

Today I’d like to chat with you about questions.

Tony Robbins said “The quality of your life will be determined by the quality of the habitual questions you ask on a daily bases.”

Tony also talked about endless loop questions that get and keep you stuck. Questions like “Why is it that no one leaves comments on my blog?” Endless loop questions are disempowering and provoke more endless loop questions that drive you down to a place where not much good can come from. (A better question could be, “How can I repackage my message so I ignite more interaction with my target audience via blog comments?”)

So today I’d like to post some questions about your blog, or blog to be and where it’s all going for you. I’m doing this in hopes of creating some real value for you as a reader here. But more importantly, I want to be the one that saves you loads of time because if some of these questions are not answered, you could end up very frustrated and discouraged with the results you produce. marketing stress on the internet

If some of these questions make you uncomfortable, that’s OK. If it’s too uncomfortable to answer, then you’re just not ready and that’s OK too.

But please understand, at some point if you don’t answer these questions, you could end up spinning your wheels for a real long time ending up frustrated, disappointed and bitter. Now we don’t want that do we?

If you do answer them, you’re chances of profiting are as good as it’s going to get for you.

And, if you were to get some coaching, I guaranty your coach is going to be asking you a lot of questions in hopes of getting you to see the answers to your aspirations and dreams that you just could not see before because you never really asked these types of questions.

Let’s ask a few simple questions.

1. Who are you talking to? (I think this is the most important question you can ask)
Say you have a blog about internet marketing, and your answer is “everyone that wants to make money online”. I can tell you right now, you’re going to be very frustrated in a few weeks or months. Why is because that answer is just too unfocused.

Your answer needs to be very clear and hyper laser focused.
Think super sub niche.

If you’re into weight loss for example, think in terms of the ideal person you want to have as a subscriber. Create a list, one like the following but not limited to.

1. Woman between 28 to 38.
2. Soccer mom.
3. Two to three kids.
4. Kids are in private schools.
5. Household income is 200k a year.

But go even deeper… Much deeper.

So who are you really trying to communicate with?  Anyone who wants to lose weight is not going to cut it.

2. What will your outcome look like once it happens and how will you know?

I don’t know what your blog is about or what you want out of it but what ever it is, having a very clear picture will set the stage for every action step you take from day one.

Maybe you have a blog that is about creating change in the world and you could careless about it making any money. Great! How will you know when you have succeeded?

3. Who else has done what I want to do and how can I learn from them?

Want to save a lot of time and frustrating late nights in front of the computer screen?  Find someone successfully doing what you want to do and model them. This is a short-cut and we like shortcuts :-)

4. Is what I’m doing now working? How do I know?
You may already be succeeding and not feeling it.

5. Am I going to create products and services for my subscribers or just do all the research on the best products and services they’d be interested in and become they’re trusted adviser?

6. What do you want your visitors to do when they see your blog for the first time?

Here is the big reason why I’m posting all this question stuff today:
I’m going through an audit right now with the tax office here in Japan and there are some areas of my business that are so unfocused, it’s made a real mess. I do not wish this on anyone, even that jerk who picked on me for being fat way back in the fifth grade. If this post and the offer that follows helps you avoid some unwanted pain down the road, then all this will serve its purpose.

Look at these questions above as a self auditing process to help you focus and give you direction. If not, you may end up in a position down the road where answering to yourself in this way is the least of your worries.

NO STRINGS ATTACHED OFFER

For the first three people to leave a comment, I will personally spend 30 minutes (If needed) on the phone with you giving you free coaching which I never do anymore.

We will look at your blog and see how it can get to where you want it to be as soon as possible. If you do not have a blog yet, we can get clear on a plan of action so you are up and running this week.

If you are one of the three to take me up on my offer, you’ll need to take the following action steps.

1. Download Skype from http://www.skype.com which is free and install it on your computer.

2. Add “craiginjapan1512” to your contact list.

3. Get headphones and a Mic or a headset if you don’t already have them.

4. Email me to fix a block of time that works for us both.

That is so true that we can get so consumed by the negative that it is sometimes difficult to see a way though. Wise words!

I for one am going to take you up on your offer. You were kind enough to suggest I call you last month. Even purchased the headset, downloaded skype as you recommended. And then everything I normally do during any given day came to a screeching halt thanks to a stupid accident – broke some bones!~
TO make matters more interesting my blog has been offline for the better part of a week. The htaccess file was corrupt, and now all the editing I did vanished. Back to square one.
1. Who am I talking to: rabid Harry Potter fans of all ages
2. As a custom knitwear designer, I would like to continue catering to fans who “demand” authenticity in their costuming props. I’ve already extended the costuming beyond HP so I would like to continue developing that niche.
3. Not sure if anyone has done what I do. in this specific niche. Been at it since 2002 and in the actual business since 1975. I feel fairly certain I was the first one out there [on the web, that is] specializing in this particular niche and I know for a fact that I am the first one to offer several specifically related products. The disturbing aspect is that I recognize my designs in the “copycats” – even my webcopy is being “copied”. So much for copyrights.
4. What I am doing has been working like crazy since 2002, is on the downswing now [that's understood] but the niche can evolve into other costuming tangents.
5. Already do create products. Totally unique, customized products. Maybe related services?
6. Would like the blog to become the “interactive” aspect of what is currently a personalized service. My hope is to find a way to create a backend type product, which does not require any lengthy turnaround time – Offer related products? So far, the digital products have not worked.
The blog would bring more traffic to the site but I’ve already had to reduce production due to overwhelming demand. I know it is not a bad thing to have too many requests for products…but it becomes a problem when it is literally impossible to fill the orders. Biggest wish is to have something I can package and ship on a daily basis! My repeat customers now order as much as a year ahead, knowing that it is literally a case of first come, first served.

Ok…I bet Craig recognizes me now ;0)

Cheers from a steamy hot Washington d.c.. Di
Any suggestions?

OMG Craig this post was sooo timely. I often find myself wondering “How can I get more folks leaving comments on my blog?”

I think that I’m super discombobulated lol and that’s what I probably need help with.

You see my main website is a defined niche and this niche certainly fits into my blog, but my blog niche is a tad bit broader…I should probably change that?

Well I hope I’m one of the 3 and you can help me…..I think all of the questions you posed thus far are awesome and the first thing that EVERYONE starting a blog needs to do (heck, even us folks who already have a blog but are confused as to why we’re not getting comments or traffic, etc.)

Thanks.

Carey

OK folks, you’re in.

Just call me on skype after 10PM or before 11am (Japan Time >>
Standard time zone:UTC/GMT +9 hours) and we can fix a time that works for us both.

Please pick one biggy outcome you’d like to see happen and we’ll work on that. If not, we’ll be all over the map and I have real bad “all over the map allergies” that must be avoided at all costs :-P

HI Craig.

Wonderful content. Helping bunches on getting my little blog running.

I noticed in one of your posts, a picture of WP 2.5 something showing a post being created. It appears you are using a plugin for wysiwyg. I have installed 2.6 and a plugin that is supposed to do that. I have a customized the toolbar as advised, but when I got to write a post I get all sorts of wierd buttons that I have never seen before doing html inerts into the content area.

Any suggestions or ideas? should i dump 2.6 and to 2.5 or what?

Thanks

Justin
