Seth Godin on Social networking

seth godinI’ve read all Seth’s books and when he speaks, I at least listen.

There are a lot of people selling programs to teach you how to make money from social marketing on twitter… I’d stay away from them all.

Why? What’s being sold is common sense and if you don’t have that, no program is going help.

Use places like Twitter to connect with friends and clients. Make friends too if you want but one thing is for sure, it’s not a place to post ads 24/7. If so, it’s like going to a party,  (you  sell houses for a living) would you run up to every person asking them “Hey you wanna buy a house?”

If you did, you’ll be the jerk everyone avoids and complains about at the party.

One person that really gets this and teaches it is Perry Belcher. Google his name.  He’s put out a bunch of videos on the subject and they’re real good. He also sells some products on the subject but expensive is an under-statement. (Sorry Perry.)

Before blowing any money on twitter guides, read what twitter the company has to say about using their service… http://business.twitter.com/twitter101

Here’s  a good tip: Share some value on the internet and let people discover you, your products and your services.

Don’t worry, they’ll find you and buy from you.

I’ve yet to sell anyone on mentoring/coaching but I get new clients all the time so I know this is sound advice.

Now that’s a winning formula for business and life.

My problem with Twitter is that it is being spammed by people promoting stuff like porn, dating etc. It seems like every second follower is marketing something.

Like Craig says it is all about common sense. How can you expect things to happen from the virtual media if it does not make any sense in the “real” world.

I hate facebook and twitter, total waste of time and energy in my opinion.

How many users fail to realise that it is much easier to have 1000 so-called friends on facebook than 1 real friend in life. Now, how bad is that ?
