plugins

Linda asked When activating the disclosure policy plugin I get a “fatal error” message. Any suggestions?

It may just not be compatible with the version of worpdress you’re using. I suggest you check the plugin author’s page to check. While you’re there, see if they have an update.

Let’s take this question as an opportunity to have a chat about wordpress plugins.

In the past with a normal HTML website when you wanted something like a nice looking contact form with a function to protect your email in box from spam, you’d have two choices, write the HTML code yourself or hire a coder to do the job.

Now, with wordpress you can just download a plugin, install it, activate it and you’re done.

Look now at the top navigation bar of this blog and you’ll see a link called “Contact Craig” next to the home link. Go ahead and click on it. A  plugin did that, not me.

If you don’t know how to install and activate a wordpress plugin, Click Here to see a video showing how to install a plugin I made for a member of the Warrior forum.

In the video I am teaching how to install a wordpress admin drop down menu plugin. This plugin is so cool. Click here to get a copy of that.

Someone asked me, “What are the best five wordpress plugins?”

I have no idea because it all depends on what you are trying to do.

When thinking of something I want a blog to do, the first thing I do is Google something like “Question and Answer wordpress plugin”, or contact form for wordpress plugin. I then read about what is available paying attention to any issues others are having with the plugin being recommended. No need downloading and activating if there are issues.

Here are a few plugins I like to use right away.

1. A contact form that keeps spam bots away. (  A Spam Bot is software that runs on auto spamming email forms of websites.)

Here is the next contact form I am going to use.

2. Google sitemap ( Still need to install this one here )

3. SEO Plugin ( This helps your blog be more search engine friendly )

One thought to keep in mind is, if you load your blog with loads of cool plugins, come wordpress update time (Which is often) and you update, some of those wordpress plugins may not work anymore.

I’ll post about upgrading your blog easily soon but for now, keep the above thought in mind because if you have more than one blog, updating them with all the plugins you installed will eat time up fast!

If you know of some cool plugins you’d like to share, leave a comment.

You are now a blogger

NOT!

Don’t let anyone try to put you in a box . If someone talks you into believing “just because you have a blog” you are now a blogger, you’ll sort out what that means, and blindly follow that model whether it’s good for you or not. Part of that model is, you should blog everyday. What a joke in my option.

I see this in the internet marketing niche all the time. People follow models whether it fits them or not.

Someone posted a very dog matic comment about “HOW” blogging is to be done.

It never got aprroved because I disagree with telling anyone “HOW” it’s got to be.

A blog is whatever you want it to be. You can do whatever you want with it.

At the end of the day, the only thing you should listen to is your stats. If you are not already using Google Analytics to collect statistical information about your blog’s traffic, please try it out… It’s very revealing!

Some signs of a good blog for me is a blog that is helpful, friendly, informative and entertaining. The blog does not have to have all of these elements but if it did, that’s cool.

A good blog has comments. This is a good sign you are reaching your readers.

A good blog has in coming links from people bragging about your blog with out you asking.

A good blog puts their readers before their own self serving wants and needs.

I dislike blogs that scream “THIS IS THE WAY!” or Listen to me because I am the TONY ROBBINS of Internet marketing.

I dislike blogs that pit one social group against another.

The above are all my thoughts and I am not into pushing it down anyone’s throat… Try it, if you like it great!

Happy blogging, how ever you may define it!

Craig

Traffic from Trackbacks

Someone asked “How do I do track backs”?

Track backs are a great way to get in coming links and traffic to your blog however, I feel it’s an advanced function of blogging. I’d like to stick with the basics but I do want to answer this question so I am going to hand it over to Jack Humphrey . Jack is very good at marketing with blogs. Click on Jack’s name to get a free education on all this social media stuff… He’s an expert.

Here is Jack teaching track backs.

Not a good content writer for blogs

Chris asked, “I’m not a writer how can i get good content for a blog?”

I don’t believe I’m a good writer and have struggled with this from day one online myself.

So, I only write content for a few sites I really like and out source the rest.blog idea image

Let’s have a chat, a brainstorming session together and come up with some ideas to get content. If you have an idea even if you think it’s not a good one, just leave it as a comment.

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head.

1. Go to your local university and run an ad in their newspaper looking for writers.

2. Use online resources to find writers.Just search article writers in Google. I do not pay more than 10 dollars an article and like to pay less.

3. Buy PLR articles and create an audio blog by reading the PLR articles into your blog.

4. Post youtube.com videos on your blog and just write your thoughts on the video.

5. ASK! If you ask your readers what they want, it’s real easy to write ;-)

6. Trade services. I am very good at some tasks and found a writer that is not good at the same tasks. So from time to time I do work for my writer friend and she does writing for me. It’s a real good deal! I get out of what I hate to do and so does she!

OK folks, leave your ideas as comments below so all of us can benifit.

Thanks,

Craig
