Static page on your wordpress blog

Pretchie asked “How can I have a blog that has a static page as the welcome page?”

Good question.

I think doing this is a good idea if you’d like your visitors to know about what you offer and how they can sign up to your list. With this strategy, there are less leaks. Leaks meaning distractions away from taking the action you want them to take.

Distractions on your main page are having 5 to 20 snippets of posts (like this one here). If your visitor starts poking around, there is a very good chance they will not sign up to your list or take the action you want them to take.

However I still do not know what you’re trying to accomplish so let’s just get right into how to make a static page the first thing people see when they hit your blog.

STEP 1

Create a new page not post and name it whatever you want. Keep in mind, the name is going to be the title of the page people read.

STEP 2

In your admins blog panel click on settings and then reading.

Click the radio button (1) and select the page you just created in the drop down tab (2). Go ahead and scroll to the button and click update

Visit your website’s address now to see that page showing on the front.
