I like xheader.com (free) to do a custom header. Can use paint with it to change an image to how you want it, and make backgrounds etc. The paid backgrounds are nice, but not necessary – there are plenty for free. My 5 yr old can do it himself.

No worries. The search engines can see the titles.

Search in Google “how to start a blog”. I’m number six out of 380,000,000 other pages.

Now look at my header image. There is no title or description.

Thanks for the great tip. I have one question though. If one hides the title and description using this method, would they still be visible to the search engines?

This would be good for seo and asthetics if one can have a nicely designed graphic header but at the same time have search engine robots read your blog title from the code.
I am not referring here to page title which is set using the title tag (I am sure you understand). I have found that blog titles work very well for seo. Your thoughts please.

Thank you for this information. I want to change a header and appreciate your instructions. Want to add something extra to my site.

For your readers, I found Paint.net to do editing of the header. There are You Tube videos showing you how to use this software tool.

You’ll need a image editing program. Google GIMP

I’d not bother however because the theme does not seamlessly work with WordPress 3.01

I will not be updating this theme but will be adding lots of new themes for wordpress 3.01 soon to the free theme page on this blog

If you are talking about the free wordpress hosting, you can not get to the php files.

Hello
i only have domain mapping for the blog site and thats why i got the css editor for my blog site. but i cant see any “Click on “Appearance” then “Editor”.” for my blog. could you please advise what i need to do to access editor or see the php files only doing the wordpress hosting.

BTW: I was soooo technologically challenged when I first started out I would shake, tremble, and have extreme anxiety.

I remember agonizing for weeks over what domain I should buy… Should it be a .com -OR- .net? Should I put my name in it? And on and on. Come on! It’s a seven dollar deal. I now know that it was just fear over taken my mind and preventing me from just taken action.

So, you are way ahead of where i was

I’m just getting started with blogging but took a look at this to see what’s in store. I can tell by the way you give instructions that I will be able to do it. The first time you and I talked on Skype you made the observation that I was “rather technically challenged”. This is only a temporary condition. I can’t wait to get started on my blog and I know it’s going to be awesome.
