Vote for this post plugin

Found a cool plugin for wordpress that let’s your readers vote on your posts.

Why would you want this on your blog?

Well if you have a blog with the font size set tiny because you want the traffic to avoid reading and only click on links that make money, then this plugin will not serve you.

Yes there are blogs on the net that could care less if you read its content or not. These blogs are built to rank well in the search engines and get loads of free traffic.

Interesting model above that may make money but not a business.
(we’ll chat soon about all types of blogs on the net.)

You’d be surprised to see how some are using blogs.

But if you know the value of feedback then using a “vote for this post” plugin will serve you well.
Click here for the download page.

This plugin is just one more way to make your blog interactive and get feedback from your readers.

Making your blog interactive is a good thing. It’s how to get people involved, empower them and give them a chance to let them feel their voice matters (Because it does).

What are some other ways you could make your blog interactive?

Hi Craig,

I was about to point out a lot of main stream businesses on the internet that use small font but I realize that I’m a bit grumpy right now and that your blog isn’t the place to vent.

The type of blog that you’re talking about sounds like a web 1.0 site using web 2.0 technology to do their thing. I’ve got a niche blog that’s like this though the font size is the same as most main stream sites (it’s smaller than yours). The content is worthwhile reading as I’ve spent a lot of time writing it.

It just seems that one can either put all ones eggs into a single basket and make it super interactive with lots of free information and help and then hope for the best, or one can spread the risk out by setting up lots of niche blogs. Those that bring in money can be developed into the type of model that you mention.

Thanks Marc for not vetting here. If you look at my post, I’ve stroked out a few lines. I’m not even going there.

I do not want to turn this blog into an IM debate.

Blog on! (however you define it)

I’ve often wondered about the value of a voting option on articles, posts, etc. If a post does not resonate well with people, then I would think the writer would get low ratings on the post. This in turn might encourage people who read the post to take a more dim view of the post than they might otherwise do. And then I wonder if it will end up reflecting poorly on the writer as a whole.

I guess on the other hand high vote numbers might give people a more favorable impression of a post.

I guess you are saying that the positives outweigh the possible negatives of a “vote for this post feature,” right? Have any thoughts on the issues I’ve raised?

Yup, I’ve thought about it and the best I can say is, it has to be tested. One big thing I’ve learned on line is, one size does not fit all no matter what any Guru says. Each market is different and will react differently.

Voting plugin is a social proof vehicle. It’s a fact people act on what they see others do. If they were getting close to hitting that low vote star but see loads of 5 star votes they may pass. Same goes for if they were close to voting but there are no votes, they may just pass.

Test it out and see what happens :-)

You can also cheat from the plug-ins control panel which is kind of stupid to me.

I think another way to make your blog interactive is to have surveys in regards to the overall content, not just a particular post.

One of my blogs is about “ourgaylives” and it’s in conjunction with the gay marriage site that’s linked to my name but since I have no idea really what I’m doing yet lol I put a survey on my blog from surveymonkey.com I thought it was pretty cool seeing that people actually took the survey! And seeing what the results were.

I’m probably suppose to make a post saying “this what the readers here say they want” etc. But I’m just muddling along right now..trying to figure things out.

Btw, I will say this and I don’t know if this is common or not but for me, it’s really hard to stay focused and dedicated to the gay blog and website when I’m not making any money yet. Do you hear that a lot Craig? I mean it’s a lot of work………but my problem is that I enjoy it, but it’s not what makes me money yet!?
