Your first wordpress blog
Hi Folks,
I can not believe what a big response idiotproofblogging.com has received!
Over 150 questions came in just today so please be patient for answers.
Yes, I will answer them all!
This post is going to be the post that addresses installing your first wordpress blog.
Dean asked, “what is the best host for blogs?”
I don’t know who is the best but the one I use and am very happy with is host gator . All my blogs are hosted there.
Let’s talk about hosting first before we get into the steps for installing your first blog.
One question I received was, “Should I host my own blog or use a free platform such as blogger.com ?”
If you just want to get your feet wet, and see if all this Internet marketing is really for you or not, free is the way to go.
But if you can pay five dollars a month for hosting, and feel you’d like to have your own blog and really go for it all the way, then you should host your own blog.
Hosting your own blog
This is real easy to do these days. The following are the exact steps I take every time I help others setup their blog.
1. First thing is to buy a domain name from http://www.omnis.com/
I like them because it’s not a very business site meaning they don’t have loads of up-sells.
All you need is a domain name from them. No hosting, no email services, nothing but the 7.95 domain name.
2. Get yourself a cheap hosting account called Hatchling plan for $4.95 a month . You can always upgrade later to a bigger account. This is the same company I use for all my sites and blogs.
3. You hosting will send you an email containing a bunch of info. What you need is the following:
Your name servers:
ns215.hostgator.com
ns216.hostgator.com
Now login to your http://www.omnis.com/ , go to domain name management and then click on modify name servers.

There is where you type in your two name server addresses like in the following image.

Click Update after you type in your own info checking you typed in the right info.
Give it a few minutes for your domain name to move over to your hosting account.
Now follow the steps in the following video

Hey Craig!
I have a question. You say to use these nameservers: ns215.hostgator.com and ns216.hostgator.com – mine look different, though. Do we all have unique nameservers or is the one you provided a generic hostgator nameserver?
By the way, I use hostgator for all my sites too and I LOVE them. Glad you recommended it.
