Finally someone is making blogging clear. Sheesh, it's not that hard, is it? Thanks for this great blog on blogging :-) Although I already have one blog created by an "expert" I now see that it will be easily possible for me to create others in related areas and maintain them pretty easily.

Cori,

When you initially set up your blog you were asked to fill in an email address for your blog (I think about half-way down the setup page) where you could fill in "admin"/"owner"/"your name" or "anything else" you'd remember @ "yoursite.com

When you've found that address go back to cpanel main page, click on "mail" (top left-hand corner). You'll then get a list of options, go half-way down to "Forwarders" & click on that.

You'll come to a screen where you type in whatever you chose as your blog email address. There are some red arrows pointing to a box and this is where you type in where you want your blog email forwarded to. Click on "Forward" (or whatever that button says ??) Then you'll get a message confirming your forwarding details. As Craig says, it's best to forward all blogs' email to one central address.

Hope this is understandable and what you were asking about - if you need any further help just leave a reply.

Hi Cori,

One of the things I love most about host gator is their support! It's included in the price we pay and I use it a lot! When all fails, contact them. You can call them, or have live chat on their main domain which I use often.

If I were you, I'd go through each email setup and make sure they're pointing to where you want them pointed.

Here's how I mange emails: For each domain, I create it's own email then I point that to my gmail account. Gmail is a good SPAM cleaner.

So I check one email account everyday, gmail.

I do have one question related to host gator... I have a couple different domains registered, and i want to set up the email accounts, and have them all forwarded to my main email account. But i think i did something wrong in the set up, because i have several different variations of my domains listed as email addresses, and i don't think any of them even work or point to real mail somehow.. i know i did something weird i am sure, and have no idea how to fix it! If anybody has any ideas on fixing this, i'd really appreciate it!
regards,
Cori

Hi Craig,

I believe the information you're providing here will definitely help many newcomers to blogging.

When I first tackled blogging I wondered what the heck I'd gotten into! But, trust me folks, once you do it, you'll find it's not as hard as it looks. And, I can't think of a better guide than Craig; follow his advice and you won't go far wrong.

Back to hosting your blog - choosing a hosting provider comes down to personal choice. All companies have their good and bad points, but remember you get what you pay for ;) Ask around, ask friends, etc.

I use HostGator and ANHosting and have had no problems with either of them - their support is quick and reliable. But, whichever hosting you choose, make sure they have 'Fantastico' installed as it makes installing WordPress much simpler.

Hope this helps,

John R.

Thanks Mike for the feedback and kind words.

It's just going to get better as I go...

Please, you and everyone else, if you need things dummied down more, just say so.

At times people in the "know" expect others to "just know" stuff and that attitude is a bit discouraging for the person asking. I don't want to make anyone feel that way.

About installing a blog on a website you already have, it's done like in the video. So you want your blog to sit in a folder called "blog" on your site? Just type in blog like in the video or name it whatever you want... mikesblog, etc...

If you already have a hosting account, but no website up yet, just your domain sitting there, leave the directory text box empty and fantastico will install wordpress in what's called your root folder. You root folder contains the documents people see when they go to your main domain name.

For example if you go to this site's main address which is http://www.idiotproofblogging.com you will see my video page which is an HTML document. The blog is not in that directory, it's in http://www.idiotproofblogging.com/blog/

When talking about servers and hosting you'll see the word "directory" a lot. Directory is just a fancy word for a "folder" on your server.

Here is what a bunch of folders I mean directories look like on your server

<img src="http://www.idiotproofblogging.com/images/folders.jpg" alt="blog fodlers" />

If this does not answer your question, email me, and I'll walk you through whatever it is you want to do.

Your video was so good and easy to understand that I almost started crying.

I've been trying for so long to learn how to set up a Wordpress blog and it seems like you need to be a nuclear physicist to even understand the first paragraph of what most people "teach."

They say, "Just do this..." (like you already know this stuff!) and you have no idea what they're talking about.

There is nothing out there for a real beginner...

This looks like it may be! Thank you so very much!

Anyway, my question is:

Regarding putting your new blog on a new domain...

Say you already have one website on your hosting account, and now you want to add this new blog with its own domain...

How do you do that?

(The video only showed adding a blog to an existing website.)

Thanks,

Mike

Yes Tiffany, the one provided is a generic hostgator nameserver...

If you can keep an eye on things here, that will help because you represent a lot of people that are not into the techie side of things. Your questions are always good :-)
